John Woods RIP

posted 6 years ago

All of us at the Trust were very sad to hear of John’s passing yesterday.

John was a member of the Trust right from the very start and was a constant and generous supporter of all our activities.

John was hugely well-liked by all and will always in the away end by our side in spirit. He was, simply, a lovely man.

Here below the photograph, his friend Nigel Milligan pens a warm tribute.

The picture shows him resplendent in his Bluebell railway uniform the day ‘the gang’ descended down to Horsted Keynes in the summer of 2016. Simon Nichols mugs for the camera whilst John maintains his professional dignity despite us guys clowning around. John was a true gentleman and one of the kindest people I ever had the good fortune to meet. We met through our mutual love of Barrow AFC about 33 years ago, and John was instrumental in the ‘glue’ that tied us all together. His enthusiasm and encyclopaedic knowledge of the football was only matched by his dry sense of humour and love of real ales. He was always an absolute pleasure to be around and he will be sorely missed.
RIP John.
