Keen cricket fan and Barrow manager Pete Wild will be swapping the
roar of the Holker St End for the thud of bat hitting ball, in a charity
cricket game in Barrow this Friday.
Furness Cricket Club and The Bluebirds Trust are jointly hosting the event at
their Oxford St ground. Both organisations hope the Furness public will
support the game between Barrow AFC staff and Bluebirds Trust
supporters.
The two teams are raising money for the cricket charity ‘Opening up
Cricket’ which promotes positive mental health and suicide awareness in
the game and also the ‘Bluebirds Travel’ initiative to support families
enjoying themselves at Barrow AFC despite the rising cost of living.
The event is the brainchild of Barrow AFC fanatic Stu Nichols and
Bluebirds supporter and Furness cricket stalwart Harvey Dale.
“This is always a great day and raises much needed money for some
worthy causes,” said Dale. “We look forward to hosting once again and
hopefully there is a big crowd to cheer on (or sledge) the players!”
For the Trust, Chairman Steve Herbert said, “It is brilliant that Pete is
taking the time to come, as are the rest of the staff. We’ve managed to get
all the players’ sponsored too.”
The fun starts at 5.30pm and as well as the game there will be food and a
raffle. The Bluebirds Trust are also looking for sponsors, for the event
