With a week to go before nominations for election at this year’s AGM of the Bluebirds Trust close, we would like to remind members of how they can stand for election to the Trust Board.
As a Trust Board we are always looking for additional help from the membership in running the Trust, and we invite anybody who feels they have the ideas, skills and time to get involved and consider putting themselves forward for election to the Trust Board.
In addition to the regular Trust Board elections, we are electing a volunteer to be the Trust Representative on the board of directors of Barrow Bluebirds Limited. This person will also serve on the Trust Board.
The current representative, Steve Herbert, has informed the Trust Board that he will not be standing for this post again at this AGM, although he will remain on the Trust Board.
Steve said:
“The first reason is I think it’s best for the club board, with more concentration on installing infrastructure for the next few years, to have someone with a different skill set. The whole point of having a fan elected representative is to have the right people at the right time in the cycle- and as part owners, that will be your choice who to elect. I’d like to thank Paul. Tony, Kris and Levi for their support, they are moving mountains, as are all those working at the club behind the scenes.
I’m not going away. I just want to concentrate more on areas of the fan community and culture. That’s my passion when it comes to football and always has been. I hope I’ll be allowed to keep going with those areas as I always have done.
Another reason is work commitments. Working in education I need the energy, commitment and focus, especially at the moment. I would also like some much needed family time. I’d like to thank them for being so understanding when I decided to take the role on.
I‘d like to thank you, Trust members and Barrow fans very much for the opportunity you gave me- it’s been an honour. It’s also been rewarding, occasionally maddening, exhausting but fascinating . I’ve learned an enormous amount about the game we all love but wouldn’t have done any of it anywhere else.
All of you at Barrow Soccer have my respect for what we are doing for this club and town-together. As I said to the Trust board, we are half-way up league 2, a roof on the Holker End, better facilities and over 3000 for a league game that would once have been the highlight of the season. That’s a long way from 2018 and even further from 1972. Let’s enjoy it!”
Further information on the roles and responsibilities of those elected to the Trust Board can be found online at https://bluebirdstrust.co.uk/documents/ or contact info@bluebirdstrust.co.uk or speak to any current board member if you have any questions about the roles.
Those persons wishing to stand for nomination for the election must observe the following rules:
• Any person wishing to be a candidate for election to the Society Board must be a fully paid-up member of the Society and be nominated by at least one fully paid-up member of the Society.
• A signed letter of nomination from a member, or email from the address a member has given the Secretary are acceptable substitutes for a signature on the candidate’s nomination form.
Candidates are also asked to supply a statement of 400-1000 words which outlines their reasons for standing and the skills that they are able to offer. These statements, along with proxy voting forms will be sent to members ahead of the AGM.
The deadline for nominations is midnight on Friday 22nd October 2021. Nominations should be sent to: The Election Management Group c/o, 5 Aycliffe Drive, Chorley PR7 7GD or emailed to info@bluebirdstrust.co.uk
Once all of the nominations have been received, the Election Management Group will confirm that the nominees are eligible for election by midnight on Monday 25th October 2021.
Any member wishing to raise a resolution at the AGM or raise any other item for discussion at that meeting, should do so in writing to the Secretary including the justification for, form and content of the resolution at the addresses given below before Friday 22nd October 2021.
